Press release regarding Team South Africa Mascot

THE WANDERERS CLUB

We would like to draw your attention to the press release below with regards to the
Team South Africa mascot:

Sports loving South Africans will get to vote for a Team South Africa mascot for all multi-coded sports events going forward from the London Olympics and Paralympics later this year.

This is part of the national Olympic governing body SASCOC's drive to create a national identity around the team, also at future events like the Commonwealth Games, World Games, All Africa Games and Zone VI games.

"The South African sports fraternity needs something to associate with our multi-sports events," said SASCOC CEO Tubby Reddy. "The more awareness we can build around the brand of Team South Africa, the more support we can hopefully generate for the team on the international stage."

Regarding the prospective mascot, various design agencies were invited to identify and design a mascot that will have both symbolic significance and also be associated with South Africa as a being proud and successful sporting nation.

Judges have now chosen a short list of the top six designs and these will all be showcased in this week's editions of leading lifestyle magazines, YOU, DRUM and HUISGENOOT and the sporting public now get to vote via SMS on the final choice of mascot.

Voting will last one week with the process also going to national radio and television. The mascot will be the face of South African sport for the next few years.

The winning advertising agency will be notified in early March and the life-sized mascot is expected to be unveiled to the public at the same time of the national kit launch for the Olympic and Paralympic teams in Johannesburg on 4 April.

To vote for one of the six final mascot designs visit the SASCOC and Road to
London 2012 websites - www.sascoc.co.za or www.roadtolondon2012.co.za - and click on the link.

Please circulate to your members within your federation, family and friends and encourage them to vote for the Team South Africa Mascot that will take us forward from 2012 and beyond.
